Essex Police have made five arrests on suspicion of drugs and weapons offences.
Police were called at 12.45am today (Wednesday 24 October) following reports of men acting suspiciously at a house in Wheatley Avenue, Braintree. Upon arrival, officers found evidence of a cannabis cultivation at the address.
The suspects had left in a Ford Fiesta which Police linked to a Mini Cooper. The Mini was stopped in Great Leighs and found items inside, including an axe.
The occupants, a 28-year-old man from Maldon and a 26-year-old man from Southend, were both arrested on suspicion of cultivating cannabis, possession of an offensive weapon and going equipped for stealing.
The Fiesta crashed on Chelmer Valley Bridge in Chelmsford after failing to stop, what appeared to be a firearm was found within the car.
Having ran away from the abandoned car, the Police successfully arrested three men from Chelmsford after a search of the Fifth Avenue area.
An 18-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of firearms offences and breaching bail conditions. A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possession of firearms offences and possession of drugs. Finally, a 21-year-old was arrested on suspicion of possession of firearm offences.
All five men remain in custody.
Police have appealed for witnesses to the incident in Wheatley Avenue and the collision on Chelmer Valley Bridge.
Essex Police have also received reports of a group of men attempting to steal a car in Petersfield, Chelmsford, which may be linked. The Police have appealed for witnesses who saw anyone acting suspiciously in that area.
